For hundreds of years, scientists have been using simpler model organisms to study physiological mechanisms and human diseases. Animal model organisms have led to many breakthroughs in biomedical research. Till date, many organisms such as Drosophila, zebrafish, Caenorhabditis elegans and mice have been employed to study a wide variety of diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, infectious diseases and many more. Scientists at IGBMC and SGBM are extensively employing these model organisms to pursue basic and applied biomedical research.

This PhD symposium will be the first event organised in collaboration between the students of the PhD programs run by IGBMC, Strasbourg (France) and SGBM, Freiburg (Germany).

The rationale behind organizing an event of this sort is to promote discussion and exchange among the students of IGBMC and SGBM. With this symposium, we hope to provide the students with the opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas and notions on how various animal models could be used to further enhance their research. The symposium will provide an excellent opportunity to the students to interact with the worldwide renowned and excellent scientists in a more informal environment.
